Choosing an eco-worthy lifestyle requires no great sacrifice. Vintage pieces instead exist. These clothes are recycled, shared again and again between owners — and this allows them to be both earth conscious and worthy of fashion.

Finding them is no great struggle as well, with many options now available:

Consignment Shops

Secondhand stores are often dismissed, thought to provide no great value. Consignment shops, however, offer environmental awareness (without denying style). Items from previous decades can be found in these inexpensive boutiques: granting variety on a budget.

Swap Parties

Whether your unwanted clothing is ripped, stained, unfashionable, or just too small, you don’t have to throw it away. • Get creative with scissors and unwanted dresses or pants and cut them into skirts or shorts. Sew up the new hems and you’ve got something new.
• Use old clothing as material for making crafts. Don’t have to go out and buy fabric when you may have some hanging unused in your closet. Use old clothing to make puppets, new clothing, purses, patchwork scarves, and even blue jean drink coasters. Use the buttons, zippers, and cloth – you can make anything.
• You can cut the clothes up into squares to make a quilt. Maybe make a quilt of all the clothing your kids have grown out of.
• With two old t-shirts, a sewing machine (or a needle and thread), an old belt, and scissors you can make a reusable grocery bag.

All you need is some creativity, tools, and time and you can turn your old, unwanted clothing into something new. It’s fun, easy, and the possibilities are limitless.

• Some movies are just better on the big screen. So when you have to go to the theater, go for the cheaper pre-5:00 matinees. And stay away from the concession stand. Snack before or after elsewhere (or at home).
• Instead of buying or paying to rent movies or books, try your local library. Many libraries have a wide selection of movies. And naturally renting a book at the library is a lot cheaper than buying one. But when you’d prefer to own that certain book or movie…
• Use sites like eBay or Amazon to get movies and books at prices far less than retail.
• There are discounts available for theater shows the likes of the aforementioned “The Lion King.” Hunt around for discounts and you can enjoy stage shows for less. In fact, hunting around can produce discounts for most things.
• Eating out is fun. It’s also pricey. Try preparing more of your own food. If you’d rather eat out, look for coupons in your junk mail or in the newspaper.

Yes, it’s easier to buy produce at the store. But what’s the fun in that? Why buy produce possibly grown across the country (or outside it) when you can grow your own? It takes time and can be labor intensive, but you will literally reap the benefits of what you sow. If you’re interested, here are some gardening basics:

• You’ll need room to work with. If you don’t have a yard or land, some things can be grown on a patio. Anywhere with ample sunlight.
• You can till the ground – aerate the soil – or, for small gardens or planters, you can buy dirt for cheap at garden supply stores, Wal-Mart, K-mart, even dollar stores.
• You can get seeds anywhere. But what do you want to grow and what do you have room for? Pumpkins, squash and the like need a fair amount of room. Tomatoes, onions, herbs, and peppers can be grown on a patio. Potatoes, lettuce/cabbage, greens, and beans can be grown in large planters, but you’ll need more room if you want larger quantities.
• Plant your seeds according to envelope directions and keep them watered. Shelter your garden somehow (wire fence or something) or animals might eat your developing plants. Fertilizer is helpful. If you don’t want chemicals, you can acquire manure at garden supply stores or use your own food waste (bad food, egg shells, etc) or compost. Some chemicals are good to keep bugs from eating everything.

Patiently maintain your garden and, in a couple months, you’ll have fresh produce. With the time and effort you put into it, you may like it more than store-bought.

Keep Things Low Maintenance

Depending on how far along you are in your pregnancy, you might have less energy than usual. Wearing scrubs doesn’t have to be boring, and it doesn’t have to make you look like everyone else.

You can find a lot of different options for scrubs that are great looking and still meet the dress code where you work. Naturally, you’ll want to think about the patients you work with most often when you’re choosing scrubs. You might not choose the same thing for a pediatric practice as you would choose when working with elderly patients, for example. It depends on the patients, the atmosphere of the office or hospital, and what your boss will allow you to wear. Regardless, you’ll have to wear scrubs in the nursing profession.

Be sure to ask before you make your selection, to avoid getting scrubs that you really can’t wear at work.

Consider these three options:

1. Embroidered, fitted scrub tops. If you can find scrubs that are fitted, they can make it easier to work. Fitted garments move with you, and don’t look as much like uniforms. An apartment is an occupant’s personal space. From the time a tenant moves in, the four walls become a home. From the furniture that is chosen to the art on the walls, apartments tell a story about whoever lives there.

There always comes a time for an apartment makeover, time to move the story forward to reflect where the tenant is today. Whether it is New York, San Francisco or Chicago apartments, a good place to start is the furniture. Is it time to get new furniture, or can the old comfy couch be rehabbed? Do you entertain more than when you first got the apartment? Perhaps you need to update the layout for company. Or, perhaps, this is chance to redo to the garden…

Do the research. Take time to browse through stores that catch your eye. Match up the colors, choose the art work, perhaps even replace an appliance or two. Maybe it is just a simple piece of new furniture or a new rug that your apartment needs…

Or it might be time to redo the bathroom, and even the bedroom as well, giving the feel that one is in a whole new apartment. A new shower curtain and a new set of towels can transform the bathroom. Perhaps a new headboard and a coat of paint on the dresser is just what the bedroom needs.

A few new plants can give your outside space a quick “Summer is here” face-lift, creating a tranquil place to spend warm nights.

It is also important to note that your skin coloring and hair coloring also play a factor in what shades are a good match for your eyes.  Fair skin women with fair coloring are not going to look good with really bold colors.  These women should also be light handed when applying eye shadow.  Women with darker coloring and olive skin tones can be a heavier with their eye shadow because it compliments them better.

Brown eyed women can wear almost any color they want.  Colors that work well are pinks, purples, deep blues and greens.  A color to stay away from is dark brown, especially women with brown hair and brown eyes.  Play around with colors in these families to see what works best with your coloring.

How fit are you?  If you go to a gym that is catered to bodybuilders and you are not even close to being a bodybuilder, there is going to be some discomfort going to that gym.  If your fitness level is zero, there are fitness centers out there that will accommodate you.  Do not be afraid to ask questions.

What are your goals for fitness?  Are you a die-hard exerciser, a casual once-a-week exerciser or do you go every other day?  If you have a lot of pounds to lose or just keeping up maintenance, this is factors in also to the type of gym you want to join.

What time of day or night would you prefer to do your exercises?  There are some gyms that stay open 24 hours.  There are others who give their members keys for after hour sessions.  Then there are those gyms that have set hours.  Whatever time of day or night that you feel best working out is when you should work out.  Find a gym that works with you on that.

3. Make it two to four weeks before the wedding.

The night before the wedding or even the night before the wedding rehearsal is simply not a good time to throw a bachelorette party. The closest the party should be to the wedding should be no less than seven to ten days before.
4. Look for a venue that will let you have a private room or at least a separate area.

This will allow the guests to enjoy themselves without disturbing others. It can also prevent problems with male “party crashers,” which can sometimes lead to embarrassing or even dangerous situations.

5. Consider the ages of all female members of the bridal party as well as female family members (on both the bride’s and groom’s side).

The bachelorette party is usually intended to include everyone, even younger bridesmaids as well as the mother and mother-in-law, and even grandmothers or favorite aunts if the bride wishes it. It is only proper that the invitation be extended to all of them, and if this means changing venues or “toning down” the entertainment in deference to them, then you should be willing to do this.

6. Will there be gifts or prizes?

Changing a flat tire is seen as a man’s job, but if you’re stranded alone on the side of the road with a flat, doing it yourself is not as difficult as you may think. The key is to be prepared beforehand so you’ll know exactly what you need to do when the time comes.

Familiarize yourself with your car and the car’s manual. The manual will tell you exactly how to change a flat. You should have all the necessary tools in the area where the manufacturer stored the spare tire. These include a jack and tire iron. If you purchased the car used, make sure you have all the necessary items at all times, even if you have to buy your own tools and spare. Spend one weekend afternoon practicing using the jack and going over the steps listed in the manual.

When you experience a flat tire, keep driving until you reach level ground. Do not stop in mud or soft earth and make sure you give yourself plenty of room on the shoulder. Once parked, put on the parking brake and hazard lights. It’s a good idea to put pieces of wood or bricks in front of and behind one tire on the opposite side of the flat to make sure the car doesn’t roll.

Take off the hubcap and loosen the lug nuts before jacking up the car. If you forget this step, the tire will spin when you loosen the nuts.

Jack up the car. Refer to your car manual for proper positioning.

Remove lug nuts and the flat. Put on the spare and screw the nuts back into place.

Lower the jack and tighten the lug nuts. Don’t tighten them in a circular pattern, but once you tighten one, move to the opposite nut and so on.

That’s it! Store your tools, hubcap, and flat in the trunk.

Use less. See if half the recommended amount of detergent will get your clothes just as clean. Most likely, you won’t notice a difference. You can always add a little bit more each time to see exactly what amount you prefer.

Make your own. There are so many chemicals in commercial detergents; it’s very difficult to avoid them. Making your own guarantees you know what’s in your wash. You can save up scraps of bath soap and dissolve them in hot water, adding washing soda purchased at any grocery store, and there are plenty of detergent recipes found online.

Cut up dryer sheets. There’s no vital need to use an entire dryer sheet at once. Cut them in half to make them go further.

Use vinegar. White distilled vinegar is an excellent fabric softener. Add half a cup to the final rinse cycle and it will loosen up any remaining detergent.

Try aluminum foil. Ball up some foil and throw it in the dryer. The metal counteracts static cling and you can use the same ball for several loads.

Also in Indonesia, the island chain of Gili is a famous diving area but is also quiet and very relaxed. Greece

While technically not in the Tropics, the Greek island of Santorini comes close to the experience during the summer months. It deserves special mention because the beaches have three colors: white, black and red. Certainly one of those beaches won’t clash with your swimsuit. Getting around Santorini isn’t quite as easy as with tropical islands. The place has rocky, steep passageways. Jumping on a boat takes the grunt work out of the touring.

South Pacific

Of course, the South Pacific! Paradise plus. The Cook Islands give the option of going first class or beach comber. Fiji and the French Polynesia islands are both pretty much first class, but since they tend to attract budget travelers, money can be saved in various ways, but not by beach combing.

Today the pressure cooker has been entirely redesigned for some makes and models. One type is made out of thick cast aluminum and has a lid that locks into place from the bottom. The design is very clever. Both the lid and pot are elliptical in shape. This makes it a little tricky to fit together, but with practice it can be easily done. Since the steam pressure pushes upward, and the gasket is jammed between the pot and lid, there is no possibility of an explosion.

Reducing Cooking Time

Pressure cooking greatly reduces cooking time. Dry beans become completely cooked with fifteen to thirty minutes at full steam, depending on how big the beans are. Black beans only take from five to ten minutes.

Bringing Up to Full Steam

Once the food and water are in the cooker and the heat is on high, full steam can be heard as a shush-shushing sound. The heat should be turned down to maintain a steady shushing for the time allotted at full steam. Once the time runs out, turn off the steam and let the cooker cool down. Plus, the backyard was very nice as well.  It was a bit overgrown but had a lot of potential.  There was even a path that ran out to a nice small pond that would be perfect for some fish and a fountain.  While looking at the deck, I first though about just power washing it, re-staining the wood and then putting a sealer on it.  But the more I looked at it; it really needed to be replaced.  So at that point I decided to get even a bit more creative.  I decided to get my contractor to add a nice Gazebo on one end of the deck closest to the fountain and the natural path going through the yard.  It was a bit more than I first planned but in the end it was a good choice.

After all the work was done, the back yard cleaned up and the deck was finished, the place looked great.  In fact, it looked spectacular.  The home sold quickly and the new homeowners told me they bought it because of the great backyard and new deck.
