How To Build A Raised Veggie Garden

Not everyone can or wants to live in the country.  Some people are happy in suburbs and some are perfectly happy living in the close confines of the city.  However, most everyone loves the idea of fresh vegetables that you have grown yourself.  You can have veggies anytime you want them providing that they are ready for you to eat them.  A raised garden bed will give you that option.  This is an idea for those who have limited yard space in which to have a personal vegetable garden.

The first thing you should do is decide in what location you want to have the raised garden.  If your space is really limited, then you need to set the bed where it will achieve the most sunlight.  Once you have figured out the location, the size of your garden should be the next step.  Most people choose a rectangle shape, but you can build the bed to whatever size and contours you choose.

The raised bed can be set on just about any surface area.   If you are placing the bed on a concrete slab or tiles you should lay a bed of gravel first to insure proper drainage.  If you are placing the bed on grass, all you need to do is to lay down landscaping cloth to cover the grassy area.  You can also scrape up the grass and apply new soil on top of your existing soil.

You can use many different materials for the raised bed.  Materials such as cedar boards, railroad ties or even concrete blocks would be considered suitable.  Fill with good topsoil and plant your veggies.  Remember to water after planting!
