Halifax and Nova Scotia

Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia will be holding a memorial to the vicitims of the Montreal Massacre on December 6, 1997 at 12:30 pm. The ceremony will begin in the Mount Saint Vincent University Art Gallery and be completed outdoors in the area immediately in front of Seton Academic Centre. Members from the student body, faculty and staff will be conducting the memorial.

The Dalhousie Association of Women and the Law in Halifax has a Week of Reflection. The Dalhousie Women's Centre also has a Schedule of Events for Tuesday November 25th through Saturday December 6th.

Ottawa

On Friday, December 5th, at 12 noon, the Carleton University community in Ottawa, Ontario will meet to reflect on violence against women, at our yearly Gathering of Hope. The gathering will take place at Fenn Lounge in the Residence Commons Building, and will include music, speakers, and candle-lighting.

                Le CRAN de le dire:   parole de femme!

" À chaque 6 décembre, le matin au réveil, j'ai un noeud dans l'estomac: je
me sens seule.  Cette année, je ne veux pas rester seule. Je veux trouver
en moi le cran de la dire. "


14 femmes sont mortes le 6 décembre 1989.  Depuis cette date, au Québec
seulement, 450 femmes et enfants ont été tués par un homme.  La violence
faite aux femmes s'exprime au quotidien et de façons multiples.  Il faut
avoir le CRAN de le dire.

Le CRAN des femmes organise une soirée bénéfice  le 6 décembre à 20h00 au
bar les BOBARDS, 4328, boulevard St-Laurent à Montréal (angle Marie-Anne).
Les billets, au coût de 20$ par personne ou 30$ par couple, sont en vente à
différents endroits (région de Montréal: 527-2295; Bar O'Side : 849-7126;

Durant la soirée, plusieurs femmes prendront la parole à travers la
chanson, la musique, l'art visuel, l'humour et autres formes.  Monique
Fauteux, Anne-Marie Gélinas, France-Isabelle Rioux assumeront le volet
chanson.  Sur les murs seront exposées les oeuvres de Jacinthe Carbonneau,
Sylvie Chénard et Diane Tremblay.  Tandis que Françoise David, Monique
Pelletier, Christine Sioui Wawanoloath et Joane Turgeon traiteront des
différents visages que peut prendre la violence dont les femmes sont
victimes.  La soirée sera animée par Mireille Brais.

Le CRAN des femmes est un organisme en prévention de la violence faite aux
femmes qui existe depuis 2 ans et dont la fondatrice, Mireille Brais,
enseigne l'autodéfense depuis maintenant 16 ans.  Notre objectif est
d'améliorer la qualité de vie des femmes en validant leur droit au respect
et à l'intégrité morale et physique.  Notre mission est d'agir en
solidarité avec tout organisme préoccupé par la prévention de la violence
faite aux femmes.

Votre présence sera une expression de solidarité aux objectifs poursuivis
par le CRAN des femmes et nous permettra ainsi de ramasser des fonds pour
poursuivre nos activités. Les hommes solidaires à cette problématique sont
aussi les bienvenus.

Cranbrook

The Personal Safety Advisory Committee of the College of the Rockies and the Women's Centre in Cranbrook BC will be holding a display of our East Kootenay Clothesline Project from Dec 2 to Dec 9 and will be holding T-shirt workshops Dec 2 from 1-3pm at the Women's Centre and on Dec 6 from 1-4 at the College. Vancouver

"Imagining together" ... a meditation for men to speak of and support one another in visualizing the peaceful world we are committed to co-create with women, supporting the White Ribbon campaign which commemorates 14 women murdered in Montreal on this date in 1989. There is no charge for this event (donations directly to Battered Women's Support Services are encouraged in lieu). Facilitated by Stephen Douglas.

Mon. 1 - Sat 6 SPEAK OUT! A participatory, interactive exhibit honouring the National Day of Remembrance & Action on Violence Against Women. For any woman who has survived violence, a chance to speak out and speak up - in paintings, writings, poetry, stitchery and other visual forms of expression - about their experiences, the experiences of women close to them, and of all women.
